Brief Writing and Appellate Work

I have been writing briefs for twenty years. I began my career as a law clerk for Judge Truman Hobbs and Judge Harold Albritton at the Frank Johnston Federal Courthouse in the Middle District of Alabama. As a law clerk, I was immersed daily in briefs, both good and bad. This helped to shape my ability to write briefs. In private practice after my clerkship, I continued to work on my ability to write a good brief. I continue to do so today.

Every brief is somewhat different, depending on what you are trying to achieve. Appellate briefs are often the most challenging, but also the most important. I have written briefs for federal and state trial courts, and appellate courts, including the federal courts of appeals and the United States Supreme Court. I have personally filed three petitions for certiorari and assisted on others.

Brief writing is not magic, but a good brief can go a long way to achieving the desired outcome. I can write your brief, and, in most jurisdictions, I can handle all aspects of an appeal. I can also consult with you regarding a potential petition for certiorari.
